BMW is popular due to the smooth, powerful inline 6-cylinder engines. No other brand has embraced the inline-6 as much or taken it as being far. Well, now BMW uses it to a place even they have not been to yet.
While already recognized to create comfortable long-distance touring machines, BMW has brought it with a completely new level using this type of bike, the K 1600 GTL. Watching with this bike makes me wish to lose and never stop riding until I’m over the following time zone. Everything about this screams journey!
Especially the fuel-injected 1,649cc inline-6 engine which pumps out 160-horsepower. Its narrow 72-millimeter cylinder bores, with just 5-millimeters together, help in keeping the width to under 22-inches, barely wider than the usual typical 4-cylinder.
The overall weight of the bike is 776 pounds. While substantial, that’s significantly less than a typical cruiser-based touring machine. But just want . motorcycle weighs 776 pounds doesn’t suggest it has to feel awkward. It’s all about good design and balance. And even at slower speeds the K 1600 GTL is well maneuvered. You don’t feel disconnected in the front end in any respect, as on some previous K touring bikes. As speeds increase, the body weight burns up, along with the GTL feels as though a much smaller bike.
Electronically flexible suspension enables you to choose Comfort, Normal, or Sport modes depending upon your mood or road conditions. The hydraulic clutch is super light and gears click with precision.
The motorcycle windscreens can adjust to almost fully vertical, keeping wind, rain, and just about everything else off of both rider and passenger, while a deep and wide seat offers all day comfort for two.
Increasing comfort and luxury usually comes in the worth of fun, and not so using this type of machine. After the first few corners, it’s not hard to forget you are with a touring bike. Over 40-mpg’s and a 7-gallon fuel tank provides you with a 300-mile range between fill-ups, though that will require a certain amount of restraint, as I only agreed to be able to see about 280.

Every aspect of this bike is amazingly smooth. If you’re looking for a rough-around-the-edges, rumbly-type of motorcycle experience, look elsewhere.
Creature happiness abound. As well as advanced features a novice to the two-wheeled world, like Adaptive Head lighting which aims a Xenon beam into the corner because you lean into a turn. Combine by purchasing low mounted LED lighting, and you will really illuminate the night time.
ABS and Dynamic Traction Control are also part of the package, with settable driving modes for Dynamic and Rain riding, and also normal, or Road. The gauge package incorporates a big analog speedometer and tachometer, with a configurable multi display. Controls are already simplified by way of a Multi-Controller around the left handgrip.
The 33-liter side cases along with a 49-liter top case offer plenty of safe-keeping and lock and unlock electronically by having an automotive-style key fob. Extra small item storage can be found on both sides of the fairing.
Available now, the K 1600 GTL starts at $23,200. A more aggressive K 1600 GT can also be available using a sportier riding position, less electronics, less storage, and then for less overall starting just over $20,000.
While not the first inline-6 motorbike engine to hit the streets, it is the initial considering that the 80’s and the initial for BMW. And we couldn’t imagine a better brand to bring it back. The fact that it has such an impressive chassis wrapped around it really can make it that much better, and we’ll take this 6 around the road anytime.
